How to choose the right wallpaper.

Without help shopping for wallpaper can be overwhelming.  There are hundreds of books and thousands of styles and patterns to choose from.  

So where do you start? 

First come see us at the Design Studio at Thybony, we can help!  Our designers live and breathe wallpaper.  Well walk you through the different styles/colors to choose from based on your personal preferences.  

That being said there are some things we will need to know. 

We need to know the type of and size of the room you plan to wallpaper.  This will help guide us when it comes to style, texture, color and even price.   Wallpaper designed for use in a bathroom is often different than those for a dining room.  

Allot goes into choosing the right wallpaper.  Our designers are well versed in everything wallpaper.

Color trends for 2014!

It’s the year of pastel!  For the past several years the trend has been taupe’s and grays.   This year designers are flocking to a more colorful pallet, a year of “optimism” seems to be the theme.  

The color of the year according to Benjamin Moore is “breath of fresh air” which is a soft blue, hence a “breath of fresh air”.

  

Also for the first time in several years pinks and lilacs are included in the pallet.

Can I hang wallpaper myself?

This is one of those questions where there is no right or wrong answer.  Typically I tell my clients the decision to “hang or not to hang” depends on your skill level and the wallpaper itself. 

For example, if you are hanging wallpaper in a room that will require a lot of cuts then you should probably hire a professional.   The same is true when the pattern in the wallpaper is complex or there are applied decorations.  

Now if you are hanging a simple pattern wallpaper on a smooth wall then yes you should be able to hang it yourself.  Again the decision to “hang or not to hang” is completely yours if you’re comfortable then I say go for it!

Do stores stock wallpaper?

The answer to this question is no.  Unfortunately many people are under the notion stores still stock wallpaper.   

Depending on the wallpaper and its popularity some stores may have stocked certain patterns years ago but for the most part wallpaper has been a specialty order item.  

Advancements in shipping and the high cost to store wallpaper have made stocking the product a thing of the past.   

Most of our wallpaper comes from overseas (Europe and Asia).  Because of this you should allow three to seven days for delivery.

How much coverage do I get from a roll of wallpaper?

This is a question we get all the time at the Design Studio at Thybony.  The general answer is anywhere from 56 to 60 square feet.  However there are several factors that can make this number smaller.   

For example if your wallpaper has a lot of pattern repeats you will need to order extra wallpaper.  This is because the paperhanger will need to match pattern to pattern when hanging.
